The Saab 9-3 is a car that has a large deal of appeal for drivers. It is a powerful engine with good visibility. It also has a top safety rating.
It is vital to have two keys that work for your vehicle. If you lose one key, it could be expensive to replace it with a new one.
How to replace the ignition Key in a Saab9-3
If your car's key doesn't engage in the ignition you must replace it. This guide will walk you through the steps to do it on the Saab 9-3. You'll have to replace the key, get an updated reprogrammable phone, and purchase a new case for your key-fob.
In contrast to older models, the majority of modern Saab cars use transponders in the key-fob rather than a physical key that can be used to unlock and start the car. The issue with this is that the reprogrammable battery inside the key-fob eventually wears out and not hold a charge for any longer. This is particularly when you keep using the same key on the same lock.
The good part is that the battery can be replaced fairly easily by an experienced locksmith. If you have the proper tools, and a little patience you can do it yourself. The first step is to remove the key-fob. This is accomplished by inserting a flathead screwdriver in the slot that is located in the middle of the case. The plastic is very thin and can easily be damaged.
After the case has been opened, you can create the new key by combining the lower portion of the old key along with a transponder and banana. This will ensure that the new key is correctly paired to your CIM and can make a big difference when replacing the sole key on your

If you don't have two keys, you'll have to take off the dashboard and steering wheel to gain access to the ignition. Start by disconnecting your negative battery cable. After the battery has been disconnected, it is possible to remove all the trim pieces and dashboard pieces that surround the steering wheel. Once the dash is removed, you can put an screwdriver through the hole on the back of the ignition switch and remove it.
The ignition cylinder is equipped with a lock for keys that could stop the vehicle from starting if you don't contain the key. If your 900's ignition isn't working, look at the key to see if it's in the lock or snared into the ignition barrel. It is also important to rotate your keys and keep them clean to avoid bent.
Saab cars are different from other cars because they don't utilize traditional keys made of metal. Instead, the car detects electric signals from the key fob by using a special microchip in it.
If you have lost your only working key fob the dealer will charge you the highest dollar for replacing your computer module (known as the CIM). However, we can reprogram the existing computer EEPROM and prepare it to accept new keys without replacing it. You'll save up to 50% on the price of the dealer! We call it the SAAB KEY PROGRAM. The metal part of classic Saab keys is simple to copy and does not pose a serious threat to theft of vehicles. The electronic portion of the key-fob is equipped with an electronic chip that detects the car when the key is placed in the ignition switch.
saab key programming has relied on the technology of this anti-theft system for over 10 years. It's not as efficient as a door lock however it makes stealing your car much more difficult. This is why every
saab 93 key replacement owner should keep an extra key on hand.
The majority of new Saabs come with two keys in the factory, however you can purchase additional keys at an authorized dealer using a handheld computer known as a Tech-2. The cost can be under $400 for the transmitter+transponder (different than the metal key blade/shell that opens the doors and turns the ignition cylinder). The only exception to this is NG 9-3 cars, that have more modern and advanced features that require a separate key-fob and operate using a different procedure.
If you lose all keys in the event of a loss, the dealer will replace your CIM or TWICE modules and charge you a premium for it. However, we can reprogram the EEPROM on your computer to accept new keys without replacing the expensive modules.
How to Replace the Ignition Key on a Saab XC90
If your SAAB 9-3 key fob is having problems turning the lock barrel it could be time to replace it. It's relatively simple and doesn't require you to visit a dealer. You can do it at home using a few basic tools.
You'll first need to prepare the new keys. Before you start, disable the anti-theft feature by placing blocks under the rear wheels and activating your handbrake. Put the key into the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories but it will not start the engine. Repeat this 5 times, and then keep the key in the "on" position.
You'll then need to purchase an additional case for your key fob. You can find these at any auto parts store, and they're usually quite affordable. Depending on the model, you may even purchase them without electronic components.
To open the case, gently push the screwdriver with a flathead into the slot in the middle. After you've separated the case, you will be able to access all the internal electronic components. To get rid of the electronics, employ a small screwdriver and try prying them out in a gentle manner.
